Written in the Ashes .
Kaia is a novelist and screenwriter, who focuses on the empowerment of women. Her debut novel, Written in the Ashes, is a historical novel about the events that led up to the burning of the Great Library of Alexandria, Egypt, as well as the life and tragic death of Hypatia, the first female mathematician/philosopher. All history is steeped in legend. This era marked the loss of the ancient Oracles, as well as the rise of the Christians, and the small but dedicated pagan resistance determined to preserve the world’s knowledge and the secrets of the Emerald Tablet.
Kaia hails from a southern lineage of women writers. Her great grandmother, Nonni, ran a small newspaper in Earl, Arkansas in the late 1800’s. Kaia’s first writing mentor was novelist Tom Robbins. They met on the island of Maui, and have been pen pals for over 20 years. She was later mentored by the late comedian Garry Shandling, with whom she bonded over Zen, camping, jokes, and basketball.
“Kaia is a genius.” ~ Garry Shandling
Kaia is a screenwriter, and is currently directing her first documentary feature: CHALICE: Women Leaders Rise. She worked as a film development executive in Venice, CA and chaired the development of 3 films including The Good Night, starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Penelope Cruz, and Danny DeVito.
Kaia holds 7 yoga certifications and taught professionally for over a decade. She was featured on the cover of Yoga Journal Magazine, and in Health Magazine. While she’s retired from teaching yoga, she likes to say she traded her yoga mat for a surfboard.
At the heart of Kaia’s life and devotion is Nature. As a teenager she founded the youth division of the Humane Society of the United States, and spoke at the Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit. She continues to be active in ecological conservation, including dolphins, sharks, snow leopards and oceans.
A California girl through and through, she can be found most days writing, cloud watching, birding, surfing, and playing with her son, Atticus.
